Update: We Ate That Miso-Vanilla Ice Cream!

Like I said, I had to go and try this miso-vanilla ice cream.  This time I enlisted some help!

Minamiboso ALTs unite!  From top left:  Nate, James, Vic, Ebony, and Kim.  Thanks guys!
We met at Hina-no-Sato for lunch at Bingo Burger, and then all had ice cream.  It's not as sweet as most ice cream, so we all agreed that it was a "new" taste, but quite good!  I thought it tasted a bit like toffee.  The saltiness of the miso balances well with the ice cream.  Just be careful...towards the bottom of the cone some of us got some salty bits that were a little too much for us.  If you ask them to make your cone with miso "sukuname" you should be fine!

My cone.  Can you see the little bits of miso?

Anyway, if you haven't gone yet, make sure you head over and grab a cone before the end of the month!

P.S. Thanks to Ebony for taking these pics with her cute, pink smartphone!  I've gotta get one of those...

Miso-Vanilla Ice Cream?!?!

Anyone reading this blog knows my love for Hina-no-Sato, and that love has only deepened today.

Imagine my childlike glee when I open up Minamiboso's tourism information portal for the first time in the new year to find that Hina-no-Sato has come up with a new ice cream flavor-of-the-month, and boy is she a doozy.

This month's flavor features miso, handmade in Miyoshi, blended with vanilla ice cream.  For those of you who don't know what miso is,  it's a fermented soybean paste used as the basis of soups and sauces.  It's salty, a little sweet, and has a lot of that umami 5th flavor that gourmands always talk about.

The flyer says "tsubu-tsubu" which means "pulpy" or "with bits", so I'm guessing there will be tiny fermented soybean flecks in the ice cream.  It sounds crazy, but after the ecstasy of trying Pocky's Milk Chocolate Salty ( thanks Nyanko-Sensei!) I HAVE TO go and try this.   Who's with me?
